Letter from the President
Dear CTK Families,
This past Sunday, I was inspired by Monsignor Ben Kasteel at mass. He spoke of John the Baptist and how he was a voice for Jesus. Well, I believe I am a “small” voice who has been selected as President for Home & School Association. It is in this position; I have acted on behalf of our great school and worked to facilitate involvement in our community and our church. I am a servant who has found out, that by helping others it can have a huge impact on our school/church. Again, I am only a voice; none of the work can be done without the involvement of our wonderful families. Thank you.
It is also at this time I request all our families, to come back home. If you or someone in your family has spent time away from church – it is now time to return. It is now time to find the comfort you and your family can have by attending mass together and with your friends.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Charlotte Amato:
Email: camato@ctkcathedral.org phone: (806)792-6168 Ext. 218.
I would like to thank you and all our families for graciously giving of their time, talent and treasure during 2008. We at Christ the King Cathedral wish you a blessed Christmas and a Happy New year.
Patty Shipton
President,
CTK Home & School Association

CTK Sports News
As fall sports start to wind down, we’d like to take time to pat all of our student athletes on the back! The 2008 fall season was once again a productive one for all of our sports teams. The junior high volleyball team competed in the West Texas Christian Athletes Association (WTCAA) and place 2nd in the district. The junior high football team also competed in WTCAA and placed 3rd in their division.
Competing at the TAPPS State Cross Country Championships for the first time in October, the CTK girls team took home CTK’s first team TAPPS championship title! Sophomore Audrey Alambar and freshman Payton Scharfenberg finished third and eighth, respectively, to lead their team to the top. All five girls who ran placed in the top 25. The boys team had two runners in the top 15 including sophomore Jason Saiz (who placed 14th) and junior Jordan Saiz (who placed 15th). These finishes gave the boys a fourth place team finish.
The high school volleyball team made it to the playoffs this year by placing 3rd in TAPPS 1A District 1 after a tie-breaking playoff game against Plainview Christian. The girls traveled to Dallas to play Dallas Tyler Street and won their first TAPPS bi-district championship in an exciting game. The girls ended their season in the area playoff against a Houston area team, Bellville Faith Academy.
Also, congratulations to the High School Varsity football team on their TAPPS 1-1A district championship which they shared with two other district teams! CTK along with El Paso Jesus and Amarillo Classical Heritage tied for district with the same record, 2-1. CTK’s football team has made it to the playoffs every year since joining TAPPS in the 2006 season. CTK moved on to the bi-district playoffs on November 15th against Duncanville Christway in the Dallas area where their season ended.
Many thanks to all the fans who came out to watch our teams run and play! Thanks too to our fabulous coaches – Coach Wellman, Coach Catherman, Coach Molina, Coach Butler, and Coach Leatherwood.
We invite you to come out and support our junior high & high school basketball teams – visit the school’s website ctkcathedralschool.org for schedules.
